Little Ondine : a review

Fool to Cry
Little Ondine is a relatively new nail polish company that uses water, resin and pigments in their nail polishes. These polishes come in a variety of colours and finishes. Plus they do not require nail polish remover but can simply be peeled off. I know this point sounds scary like, isn't peeling polish off your nails unhealthy and damaging? .. But then again isn't using chemicals and acetone damaging to some extent? After realising that point, I decided to search for some reviews of this product before purchasing and eventually I bought the shade Purple Rain (like the Prince song *sniffles*).

I have been testing out this nail polish on and off for a while now (give or take a year) just to give a good solid review. Here it is ...

Purple Rain with 3 coats
This nail polish surprised me in the beginning because of how glossy it was and how long lasting it seemed to be. I did not having any major chipping peeling until day 3 which inevitably caused me to peel the whole lot off (impatience). I'd say that my initial thoughts about peeling a nail polish off, still ring true as I found my nails looked super dry and where I had tugged the nail polish off there was slight damage. So whilst the whole peeling nail polish off is a nice gimmick. I'd suggest not to wear this regularly if you have to peel it off every time - which is probably the reason why Little Ondine suggests to give your nails a break every now and then. Yeah I could see why ... haha

Over the year that I have had this polish, I'd say it wears nicely overall but it can tend to peel/wear off near the tips. Purple rain is a beautiful colour that I always seem to catch compliments on but, at time I feel like I can't show them off proudly because they always seem to be suffering from early wear and tear (1-2 days) . Maybe its because my nail beds are oily, I wash my hands to much or I'm crap at painting me nails (I don't believe it! *runs out the room crying*) or maybe its because after completing the manicure (base and colour) you have to avoid water for hrs - like seriously ? I'm a water baby so its hard for me to do.

Price: £7.80  now its  around a tenner - £11 each

Initial conclusion:  It's alright - a great non-toxic way to wear nail polish in beautiful colours. I doubt I will repurchase though ...

& a year later conclusion: I still haven't repurchased any shades. Peel off polishes are actually a thing now (omd!) and I have 2 more in my collection (not from Little Ondine). I've been growing out my nails for a while now and using cuticle oil regularly - I found that with longer nails - my polish seems to last longer and wear better. Perhaps its because I'm more careful with my hands but, my recent application of Purple Rain is really impressing me. So much so that I am actually considering purchasing another shade when my ban is over :) because I really like how you can apply the colour sheer and build it up and it so shiny all on it own!!

Benefits
  • "Non-toxic"
  • Doesn't have a smell
  • Shiny without a top coat
  • Depending on correct application and careful handling it can last a good time
  • The brand has a wide range of colours
  • You don't need to use acetone or some form of it to remove the polish

Draw Backs
  • Not particularly economic - £11 is not within everyone's budget
  • You have to buy the base/top coat to use the polish - I've used Purple Rain on top of a normal base coat and it just doesn't look/work the same
  • Peeling it off roughly can damage your nails or dry them out badly if you don't use some cuticle/nail oil
Final thoughts: I don't think my walk with Little Onedine is over just yet ...

Have you tried Little Onedine?
Do you have any "non-toxic" nail polish?
Know any good nail polish brands?
Do you care about the ingredients in your nail polish?
