During September/October it can be hard to keep up with all of the new launches as there are simply so many of them. I always keep an eye on new launches as I love to see what is coming out and one Christmas set really caught my eye and it was from Benefit. Benefit seem to have been one of the first brands to have launched their Christmas sets as they have been available for almost a month now. I can't say I am usually too fussed by the sets that Benefit launch for Christmas because they are usually items you can buy as a part of their standard range and I don't like all of their products. I've never seen a set which is entirely made up of products I like and would love to have in my collection. However one product I do really like from Benefit is the Box Powder products. Having said I really like the powder products, I haven't had many in my collection so when I saw The Blush Bunch set I knew I wanted it in my collection.
The reason I was so taken in by this set was because it contains all of Benefit's most iconic bronzers and blushers, most of which I don't actually own. This set has two bronzers: Hoola and Hoola Lite, and 4 blushers: Galifornia, Gold Rush, Dandelion and Rockateur. Hoola is such an iconic product and I love that Benefit have included the two shades in this set. I've actually completely used up my Hoola but I haven't repurchased it. Instead of repurchasing, I do have an alternative that I like a little bit more in the form of the Marc Jacobs Coconut Bronzer however it is always great to have a Hoola in your collection. If you do not want to fork out £19.50 on this set and you are only interested in trying Hoola, Elle Magazine currently have a free Hoola sample and the magazine is £4.40. This is a great way of trying Hoola without paying lots of money. I've already written a whole blog post dedicated to Hoola so if you want to know more about the cult classic, here is a link to my full review: Benefit Hoola
Quite a while ago I wrote a Beauty Wishlist and I expressed my interest in buying Hoola Lite as I wasn't sure if Hoola was a little bit too dark for me, well now I have had the opportunity to test them both out. I think I underestimated quite how light Hoola Lite is, which sounds silly as it is called Lite but it is true. I did try using Hoola Lite but I'm not sure it works as a bronzer on me, it does add a little bit of colour but it is so natural that it adds colour but it doesn't quite add the definition I like. Hoola Lite most definitely does not chisel my cheek bones which my football face needs. If it comes to desperate times I'm sure I could probably use this as a face powder. The Hoola range can be a little bit patchy so you do just need to make sure you tap off the brush before applying the bronzer. If you haven't tried Hoola and you are a beauty lover, you definitely should give it a go even if it is the sample from the magazine rather than being in this set. However I have loved the opportunity of to be able to compare the two shades which I haven't had the chance to do before.
Moving on to the blushers, I will start off by pointing out that all of the Benefit blushers contain shimmer but the shimmer does not show up on the skin. I know a lot of people worry about glitter in products, and I am one of those people, but I think a little bit of shimmer in your blush helps to reinforce a healthy glow and that is what the Benefit blushers do. I do actually already own one of the Benefit blushers and it is easily one of my favourite blushers which is Gold Rush.
I have spoken about Gold Rush a couple of times but I've never dedicated a whole post to it which really I should have done. Gold Rush has been the only blush I have used since I bought the mini back in May. Gold Rush is a beautiful rose mauve peach shade with a gold shimmer running through it. It isn't massively pigmented but it is buildable which makes it easy to work with for novices like me. I do not think I am even close to finishing my mini but I'm happy to keep this travel friendly one in my collection. Even that I already own Gold Rush in the mini, the Benefit mini's are still in a bulky box packaging whereas these are quite small and really handy. I originally bought this as I had read an article about it on Glamour. At first I wasn't sure what to make of it but I am so pleased I gave this blush a go. Having tried all of the blushers in this set, I think Gold Rush is still my favourite.
Gold Rush is the only one I can talk about with an certainty as I have been using it for quite a long time whereas the other 3 blushers I have used but not for a long period of time. I'll start with the blush I was most excited about using which was Galifornia. I have been eyeing up this blush for a long time but I couldn't justify buying it as, to be honest, I really wasn't sure whether it would suit me or not. I had automatically assumed not as it is a vibrant poppy pink with a very warm gold shimmer running through, much like Gold Rush. I have to say one of the big bonuses of this set is that you do not get the glitter top layer which I find quite deceiving as you have no idea what the actual shade looks like when you open the full size. You don't get any of that with these ultra-mini products, you just get straight into the product.
Galifornia is definitely a summer time blush due to the shade and the scent. I'm still not sure why Benefit scent some of their blushers as it isn't a product you would smell too often but I guess it adds to the kitsch value of the brand. Gold Rush has a peachy/vanilla scent whereas Galifornia is a pink grapefruit/vanilla scent. This means it has a freshenss and warmth, perfect for Summer. In terms of the shade my initial thoughts were definitely correct, I do have to go in with a light hand with this one but the colour is beautiful. With a golden tan this would look stunning just to add a bit of colour. I can't say I see myself wearing this a lot so that makes this compact the perfect size for me, there is no way I would need a full size. It will be a great blush to have but I don't think I will get through this very quickly.
The final two blushers are ones I remember seeing on the Benefit shelves back when I was first getting into beauty. These two blushers are Dandelion and Rockateur. I especially remember Rockateur because someone spoke about it online and I really wanted it but I couldn't justify that sort of money at the time. It was the product that first made me look at the Benefit shelves only to realise that it was bloody expensive. I'll be honest I find Gold Rush and Rockateur to be very similar. Gold Rush is slightly more peachy whereas Rockateur is more rose so there is a difference however they both have a golden shimmer + golden tones. I do quite like Rockateur but I'm not sure I will reach for it over Gold Rush. I do think this could be a nice alternative for Winter though as it is slightly deeper and would look amazing with a berry lip colour whereas I feel like the peachy tones of Gold Rush will contrast just a little bit too much.
The final blush is Dandelion which is a soft candy pink shade which essentially sums up Spring in my eyes. Previously I have tried Dandelion Twinkle but I've never given this one a go. To be honest this isn't the sort of blush I would buy myself these days. I would have loved this when I first got into beauty/makeup but not anymore, now I much prefer something with more of a rose tone. This is an iconic shade so I am pleased to own it but much like Galifornia, I don't know if I will use it too often.
I feel like I need to point out that this set is only £19.50 so I knew it wasn't going to be a set of full size products. However I wasn't sure how close the sizing would be to the mini products which are £12.50 each. The ones in this set are slightly smaller. Oddly enough the amount in each of these trial sizes varies: both the Brozners are 2.6g, Dandelion blush is 2.3g and the other 3 blushers are the smallest at 1.6g. This does make the blushers rather small but you would only use the tiniest amount when applying blush. I actually think the bronzers will be the hardest to use, even though they have the largest amount of product. I use a large fluffy brush to apply bronzer and it is going to be hard to fit it into this compact. Plus I use quite a lot of bronzer each time I apply it so to be honest I have no idea how long the Hoola is going to last me but I think I can safely assume it won't be long.
All of the Benefit powders have the same finely-milled, highly pigmented formula that they have become renowned for. Honestly the box products from Benefit are some of the best, there is a reason Hoola is such a cult product. I was desperate to try some of the Benefit box powders and this set has given me the perfect opportunity to get a trial size of some of them. I originally saw this set online but wherever I was looking at this online, it seemed to sell out. In the end I picked up a set in my local Boots but when I walked past the other day, they seemed to be low on stock.
At £19.50 I think this is such a good set for anyone who wants an introduction to some of the Benefit powders. It allows you to play around with the blushers to create your own shade but also to find out what works for your skin tone, there is a little bit of everything in this set. Plus you have a mixture of some of their best and well known products. These are small and I would say they are smaller than they come across in the pictures online so be warned. I think this would make a great gift for someone new to beauty or even a great treat for yourself. If you are interested in this set, I recommend getting it whilst you can because this does seem to be going out of stock rather quickly on a lot of websites.
