One of the things I have missed the most over our various lockdowns is being able to go into a shop and just browse. Instead when I have managed to brave the shops, I have always gone in with an agenda and the aim to be in and out as quickly as possible. However a few weeks ago I popped into Boots and I had a little bit of time so I did have a little bit of a browse and I ended up picking up a few items I had not anticipated.
I had the day off from work and I decided to take the time to have a look around, this was just before everything reopened so it was still quiet which is just how I like it. Today I thought I would share with you the products that I ended up picking up as I imagine they are items that people might be interested in trying themselves.
Becca - Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone
Good news has been in short supply over the past year but one of the worst pieces of news for the beauty industry was the closing of Becca Cosmetics. A few months ago Becca announced they were closing as Estee Lauder have been reconsidering their brand portfolio thanks to the pandemic and apparently Becca does not make the cut. Becca make some of my favourite base products, especially the Shimmering Skin Perfectors, which is why I was so disappointed to hear this news.
Since the news was announced I have been trying to think of the products I want to try and the products that I cannot live without from the brand. Boots have now copied Sephora and have their own version of the aisle of doom as you go to the tills and as I was walking through I spotted some mini Becca highlighters so I stopped to look. I think the only options were Moonstone and C Pop so I ended up picking up Moonstone as I hadn't tried it before.
Moonstone has always been a more popular shade for paler people like myself and I thought I should try it before I can no longer buy it. The great thing about these highlighters is that you do not need to use much of it each time you use it so even though it is quite a small pot, it will still last a long time.
Moonstone is a light, pearly white gold highlight that is the perfect shade for anyone who is pale like me. If you took the gold elements from C-Pop and took them away, you would be left with the white gold elements and that is Moonstone. The formula of Moonstone is just as stunning as C-Pop, it is so finely milled and adds such a beautiful soft glow to the top of your cheeks. I am going to be gutted when Becca is no longer around as all of the products I have tried have been great. I might even have to buy a full size Moonstone before they close because I have been wearing this highlight everyday since I bought it.
Wishful - Thirst Trap Juice Serum
Wishful is the newest product line from Huda Beauty and this time they have ventured out into skincare. Wishful has been around for over a year but I just hadn't tried any of the products. I did buy a Christmas Bauble from the brand to try a few products but they are still sat in my draw. Instead the first product I ended up trying was their Get Even Rose Oil as they recently launched a mini version. I ended up really enjoying the oil which made me want to try Thrist Trap Juice Serum which I thought would be a good morning serum.
I knew I was coming to the end of my morning serum so I thought it would be a good opportunity to give this serum a try. Recently I have been opting for Vitamin C serums but I am never one to turn down a bit of hydration. I didn't know what this serum was going to be like but it is a clear serum that is actually quite thick, it has a similar texture to the Niacinamide from The Ordinary, so it doesn't run around all over the back of your hand. Then when you apply it to your skin it feels cooling and refreshing but what impressed me the most was how quickly this sunk into my skin. Literally 5 seconds later it was gone and my skin looked revived and it doesn't feel sticky afterwards.
I have been using this in the mornings before I apply the Glow Recipe Pink Juice Moisturiser and once I have used the two products I have that glass skin look. I think this combination is going to be great for Summer. This serum is expensive, for the mini size I purchased it cost me £17 for 10ml of product and the full size is still very expensive at £41 but I do really like it. I think I prefer a Vitamin C serum like the Glow Recipe Pineapple Serum but if my skin needs hydration I would definitely go back to using this serum.
Bumble and Bumble - Pret-a-Powder Dry Shampoo
Where Pret-a-Powder from Bumble and Bumble is concerned, this is round 2. Back in 2018 I tried Pret-a-Powder and ultimately it became one of my most Disappointing Products of 2018. I tried the version that was basically like using Talc and it was awful; it worked for an hour and then my hair would look greasier than before, it left dry shampoo streaks in my hair so my hair looked ashy and it was just awkward to use. In my blog post that I wrote at the time I said I would be interested in trying the spray version to see if it is the same but over the years I haven't felt like taking on that commitment, that was until the entire Bumble and Bumble range was discounted in my local store.
In my local store the Bumble and Bumble shelves have been replaced with Dr Jart. I am all for this as I do like Dr Jart but I felt the important question was, what were they going to do with the Bumble and Bumble stock? My question was answered when I happened to walk past the clearance shelves and there the Bumble and Bumble stock was. All of it was discounted so I felt overwhelmed over what to pick and then I saw the spray Pret-a-Powder and I saw my opportunity for redemption. I was going to get the smaller bottle which was £18 whereas the large size was £19 so I thought it was more economical to buy the bigger size. The larger size was supposed to be £38 but I got it for £19 so it was quite a discount.
The day after I bought this product I actually had to use it as my hair was greasy and I have to say my thoughts were much more positive about this version of Pret-a-Powder. My big issue with the powder version was basically that it was a powder but this is transparent so not only do you not get that ashy look to your hair but it is longer lasting. It makes your hair look refreshed and is actually a really good dry shampoo. If you want to try a Bumble and Bumble dry shampoo, opt for the spray version it is way better than the talc powder. Now I am glad I bought the larger bottle as it means I will have this in my life for longer. I can comfortably say I would not spend £36 on the large bottle in the future. If it were cheaper I would but after this bottle I will go back to using my trusty Batiste.
All three of these products have been on rotation since buying them which shows this was a good haul. Sometimes when I allow myself an unexpected treat haul it doesn't always work out this well but these three products are all winners.
Let me know if you bought anything unexpected recently and how it worked out for you.
