CHANEL JOUES CONTRASTE / POWDER BLUSH IN 'CANAILLE' (89)

Err...so I changed my mind!  I said in this post I wouldn't get 'Canaille' due to my fear of orangey blushes.  Of course, I did say that about Chanel's Frivole (reviewed here) too, and that one turned out to be a real beauty on my cheeks.  'Canaille' (89) is one of the two new powder blushes released alongside the new Perfection Lumière Velvet Foundation range (reviewed here) for Spring 2014.  Vivacité (88) is the other new one (reviewed here) that was a 'no-brainer' for me.  I was attracted to 'Canaille' - swatching it in store and staring at it when I could.  I admired it for its uniqueness and wondered if this would turn out to be as lovely a surprise as Chanel's Frivole turned out to be.  After a while I gave in to the sales lady and got her to apply it on my cheeks.  She used it on the apple of my cheeks - a light touch is just required because it is intensely pigmented.  She then applied with a little more depth just on the contours of my cheeks to add dimension.  I was very impressed not just by how beautiful it looked, but also at the versatility of this unique colour. :)

Canaille (89) - a gorgeous, medium to dark terracotta (orange brown) with a soft, satin finish.  Despite it looking quite dark in the pan, a little of it on the cheeks actually looks brighter.  And, it really does brighten my complexion.  It is absolutely flattering!  It's has enough earthiness/brown to it to allow it to be used as a contour and it isn't too bright so it's extremely wearable.  This will suit more skin tones unlike Nars Taj Mahal - swatched below - which is very bright and orange in comparison and doesn't suit my current autumn, medium, olive (~NC30) skin tone.  Fair skin tones can pull this off just as easily by applying with the lightest hand (a single, light touch of the product) and of course, the darker your skin tone, the more you can apply to suit it.  However, a little goes a long way.

Beware that if you use the coarser, natural bristled brush (like the one included) that it might kick up a bit of powder if you work it in too much.  I prefer to use a good quality, natural, ultra-soft brush like my Suqqu Cheek Brush or Rae Morris #22 Pro Powder Brush (review to come).  Consistent with the rest of the Joues Contraste range, this one is just as easy to blend.  You will have no issues if you use it with a very light hand. :)

Packaging
Sleek black lacquer compact, which is very lightweight and has a mirror on the underside of the top lid.  It comes housed in a black velvet pouch.

Above: the product description label on the bottom of the compact.
Above: the product itself and the included little natural hair brush applicator.

Swatch
Below is a light to medium, blended application of 'Canaille' against my medium, olive skin (~NC30).  Photographed indoors using a strobe.
Comparison Swatches
Below are heavy swatches of Nars 'Taj Mahal' (left) and Chanel 'Canaille' (right).
Longevity
On my combination skin, this wore well for 8-10 hours on me with only slight fading, which rarely happens for a powder blush!  I used Le Blanc de Chanel Sheer Illuminating Base and the Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet Foundation underneath.

Scent
All the Joues Contraste blushes have a fairly strong, but beautiful rose scent, which disappears after a while.

Ingredients
Availability
Available now in Chanel counters in Australia and I believe it is limited edition.

Bottom Line
Normally, I would have stayed clear from this blush, but now it has actually become a current favourite - having worn it every day since I purchased it.  ^_^  It's unique in my collection and just gorgeous.  Don't knock it 'til you try it!  Also, it's limited edition, so I wouldn't think about it for too long!

Hope this was useful.

Thanks for stopping by! ^_^ xo
