Israelis 2006, part 3/4: Heavy equipment

Tanks
Here are Merkavas type IV, 120mm gun, modular armor and guided missiles. I haven't put the chevrons that are so distinctive to Israeli Armor. The reason is that the decals could not be fitted with all the extruding details, even using a softener. I tried to paint them, but it was difficult to maintain consistency, so I dropped them altogether. The tanks are painted with the base color, then washed with a dark brown, then I painted thin diluted lines with the base color again to give volume and highlight.

Here is a platoon of Magach 7, which is a highly customized version of the US M48. Apparently, those less modern tanks are more likely deployed in the South of Israel. But I will use them as Armor support to Infantry companies. Regular infantry figures cut at chest level were also added as tank commanders. Read somewhere that Israeli tank commanders often peek out of the tank even during combat to have a better assessment of the situation.

Here are recon Humvees and TOW jeeps. I added to the jeeps wire cutters in the front and security arcs behind the driver. This is more apparent on the command bases.

Support
Here are a couple of 155mm Self propelled artillery support. They initially came with horizontal guns, which is hardly characteristic for long range artillery... I cut the barrels and put them at an angle. Not as clean as I had wished but still acceptable. I like the flowers. It reminds me of an order I received during an exercise not to step on them while assaulting a position. Military humor, I guess.

Mortars mounted on M113, probably too numerous for what I am fielding, but why not?...

TOW mounted on a M113, known as M901 ITV. Not sure it is still used by the Israelis now, but it was included in the combat box for an Israeli unit.

A couple of Vulcans (AA gatling guns mounted on a M113 with a tracking radar). I saw one at an airshow, it looks pretty impressive as a... anti-infantry weapon. I read that in 1982, the Israelis used them to spray possible ambush sites against tank hunters with good success. I will leave to your imagination what means "success" when the area is saturated with a large volume of high speed bullets...

All in all, it was good fun to paint all these models. I think my favorites are the small TOW jeeps. The Merkavas could have included some machineguns on the top as the Israelis always seem to have a lot of different calibers on their AFVs to spray infantry targets. In a couple of documentaries I saw, I distinctly remember crews spraying around them bushes as they went to hit potential hiding places for ambush.
How am going to translate this in wargaming terms? Israelis a bit less prone to fall into an ambush?
